Cowboy Joe Marsters Commended
December 19, 1975


Cowboy Joe Marsters of Doyle, last know surviving member of “The Wild Bunch,” is pictured holding a framed copy of Assembly Res. 1362 signed by Assemblywomen Pauline L. Davis, First Assembly District, commending him for his personal contributions to the history and heritage of the Old West.

The resolution stated: “Cowboy Joe Marsters, a longtime Doyle rancher, has recently become a subject of national interest as the last known surviving member of “The Wild Bunch,” and is deserving of special recognition for his contributions to the American Heritage and the preservation of historic sites connected with outlaws and lawmen.
“Cowboy Joe’s national recognition began when he attended the formal opening of the National Center for Outlaw and Lawmen History at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, on June 10, 1974.

“He has become the most popular man in the State of Utah and perhaps the West with he revelation that he wrangled horses for “Butch” Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at Brown’s Park and various other places, where he witnessed a number of memorial events.

“The American Biographical Institute has selected Cowboy Joe to be listed in its 1975-76 Bicentennial of Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans, in order to provide a permanent record for prosperity of those whose loves and deeds will become a part of the history of their community, state, region, or country: now, therefore, be it

“Resolved by Assemblywomen Pauline L. Davis, That Cowboy Joe Marsters be commended for his personal contribution to the history and heritage of the Old West and congratulated upon the recognition being extended him by the American Biographical Institute and the National Center and Association for Outlaw and Lawman History.”
