Beckett Christmas Trees are Shipped to Los Angeles
December 23, 1978

A local Christmas tree supplier Charlie Beckett, left, supervises final preparations as truck driver Jewell Britt (on ground) and Joel Marques secure a load of Christmas trees bound for the Los Angeles area. Two trailers containing trees ranging in size from eight inches to 20 feet tall left Susanville Sunday and Beckett says there could be more large shipments before Christmas.

“We have shipped 50,000 to 60,000 trees before,” Beckett says, “and we could hit about 40,000 this year.”

He says trees, primarily silver tips and white firs, are shipped to all parts of the country.

Beckett and Beckett Christmas Tree employs about 30 workers each season. They begin cutting trees near the end of October from property near Mt. Shasta and on Roop Mountain.
