

It Was a White Christmas for Susanville Area

THE STORM WHICH HIT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA starting last Tuesday with heavy rains turned into heavy snow on Friday and Saturday. The Susanville Airport recorded 4.87 inches of precipitation from December 22 through December 27.
By noon on Monday, the snow had reached a depth of over 20 inches in Susanville. The snow flurries decreased on Monday night and yesterday the weather was colder and overcast but no more snow.
The precipitation on Wednesday, Dec. 22, was 1.47 inches, and on Thursday was 1.45 inches. Precipitation for the next four days was as follows: Dec. 24, .48 inch; Dec. 25, .90 inch; Dec. 26, .32 inch; and Dec. 27, .25 inch.
Highway traffic over the US-395 and St. Rts. 36, 139 and 44 was open during most of the storm with chains required much of the time. Latest report yesterday were that chains were advisable.
The California Division of Highways reported total snowfall at Fredonyer Summit yesterday at 45 inches.
Weather reports are for mostly fair weather through Saturday with some chance of snow showers on Thursday night. The forecasters blamed the current storm on a low pressure system.
