Improvements at Elks Club Nearly Finished
December 3, 1926

Extensive improvements are being made in the Elks’ club house and they will be finished by December 10 on which date a rousing meeting and initiation will be held.

The entire first floor of the club house has been remodeled. Six rooms have been converted into one, which will be used as a lodge and lounging room. When finished, this room will be something of which the members may be proud.

It is finished in white pine veneer paneling with a rosewood finish. This paneling, which is of a very fine quality and beautiful appearance, was donated by the Red River Lumber company.

At the head of the lodge room and at the entrance is a small ante room partitioned off from the larger room by a paneled wall upon which is painted a very beautiful figure of an Elk’s head. Under the head is the Elk’s motto: The Faults of Our Brothers We Write Upon the Sands; Their Virtues on the Tablet of Love and Memory. The stairway has been moved from the middle of the building to the front. New electrical fixtures have been installed and the back porch has been enclosed into a storeroom.

A complete new hot air heating plant has been put in the basement and the club house throughout is warmly and evenly heated.

Upstairs, a bedroom has been converted into a club room. In the spring it is planned to have a new entrance in the front of the building.

The present improvements will cost in the neighborhood of $25,000.
