8 Motorists Marooned by Snow Rescued

Eight persons, marooned for 24 hours by a storm in the Barren bridge creek area, were rescued early today, according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy said the party, which included two children, was being towed back to Susanville by a caterpillar tractor.
“They’re all safe” the office spokesperson told the United Press.
Among those saved from exposure in temperatures which dropped to zero were a Pittville family of a father, mother, and two children; Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Brown of Susanville; and Ross Johnson and Sweidel, Susanville garageman who started out Wednesday night to aid others.
The rescue represented slow tedious work on the part of state highway employees who smashed through the snow with motorized plows clearing the way for the tractor, which carried food and supplies to aid the marooned party.
