Representative Johnson Urges Voters to support
December 6, 1968
Representative Harold T. Johnson of the 2nd, Mountain Valley, District urged voters here to support the $5,000,000 bond issue for construction of a Lassen Junior College campus.
He recommended a “yes” vote on the bond measure which will appear on the ballot as Propositions B.
Called ‘Necessary’. “I think it is necessary to provide for additional higher education facilities in Lassen County.” Johnson said following a luncheon yesterday in the Mt. Lassen Hotel.
He noted that he assisted the Lassen Junior College District in obtaining from the federal government the district’s 154 acre hillside site north of here.
“I am hopeful voters of the district will approve the bond measure so we can get started with construction and federal funds – which are available – can be utilized.” He said. “I hope to see this project move forward.”
More than 50 persons turned out for the luncheon, which was one of several re-election campaign events Johnson attended yesterday in Modoc, Lassen and Plumas Counties.
The bond measure – which requires two-thirds approval for passage – would provide the junior college district with matching local funds to be combined with about $2.7 million in state and federal money for construction of a new campus.
