Toys for Tots Drive Now Underway
December 8, 1980
The LOCAL TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE is now running full speed ahead and toys are starting to pile up at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, as Sheriff Del Gorbet, left and project coordinator Dan James show.
Sheriff’s deputies have been collecting toys since last month in their efforts to brighten Christmas for area needy children. Broken but repairable toys are being fixed by Correctional Center inmates and they will be handed out by Christmas with the help of the county Welfare Department.
James said he hopes the project can serve more than the 300 children who were reached last year.
He also hopes for enough donations to get a head start on next year’s project. Donations of used toys, especially those in good shape or repairable, may be taken to the sheriff’s office or to several locations with Toys for Tots boxes. (Advocate photo by Jeff Fontana)
