SVFD Gets Emergency Truck
December 9, 1975
The Susanville Fire Department was given a 1966 Emergency Service Vehicle at the State Office of Emergency Services Building in Sacramento on Friday, Dec. 5, in conjunction with the department joining the service for “better protection in Lassen County.”
According to Ray Berettini, Susanville fire chief, pictured above with new truck, “the state office felt it would be a good idea to have a truck in this isolated area in case of a state disaster.”
The truck holds 800 gals. of water, and is capable of pumping about 1,000 gals. of water per minute. The only costs to the city will be replacing any parts and maintenance costs up to $50. The state will pay for costs over the $50 figure.
The fire department joined the S.O.E.S. earlier this year and is now a part of a northern California task force, consisting of Quincy, Tahoe City and Loyalton.
There are currently four trucks and eight men in the force. (Ai photo recreation)
