Flowers Among Favorite Gifts
February 13, 1980
VALENTINE’S DAY TOMORROW — February 14th, flowers, hearts and candy. All have combined to symbolize Valentine’s Day, traditionally known as a time for lovers.
In recent years the favorite gift to give for this day has become flowers, lots of red ones, reports Lou Wickman of Milwood Florist, who has been busy the past few days preparing for tomorrow’s deliveries.
Potted plants and single flowers have gained increasing popularity, she said, as have carnations, which are now more economical than the higher-priced roses. In addition, hand bouquets have seen a large boom, replacing the traditional flower arrangements.
But even without gifts, Valentine’s Day is always a treat, because a smile or a thoughtful word can brighten anyone’s day. (Advocate photo by Jeff Fontana)
