Thousands Attend Open House at new Susanville Branch
February 17, 1971

AN ESTIMATED 3,000 PERSONS attended the open house held at the new Susanville branch of the Bank of America last Thursday evening from 7 to 9. Employees of the bank were on hand to show the visitors the many new features of the bank quarters and to pass out souvenir pens and key rings. Refreshments were served by members of the Monticola Club.

George Pehrson, assistant vice president of the Bank of America, Sacramento, was master of ceremonies, and H. M. Schuppert, regional vice president of the bank, also from Sacramento, spoke on the history of banking in Susanville and Lassen County, and presented to Richard Johnston, manager of the Susanville branch since September 1969, a gold key.

Johnston, top photo, at right, is shown displaying the key to three former Susanville branch managers who were present for the occasion. They are, from left, Jack Norwood, now manager of the bank’s branch at Selma, Winston Nichols, bank vice president with the regional loan administration in the San Francisco main office, and Charles H. Bridges, Susanville.

In the lower left photo, Mayor Ivor Lanigar is shown as he congratulated the bank officials on the modern new quarters, and in the lower right photo, Lester Bingham chairman of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors, added his congratulations to the bank for the outstanding addition to the community.
