Susanville has a good a Volunteer Fire Department as is to be found anywhere and the town itself since the purchase of the new fire fighting apparatus has been to certain extent free from fires. At least disastrous fires in Susanville have been practically nil.

The fireboys who serve without pay have held themselves in readiness at all hours of the day or night to answer a summons and without regard to personal safety in some instances and without regard to damage to their clothes in all instances have done their full duty.

In 1924 they spent $900 for furnishing up their quarters in the city hall, $170 for rubber coats, hats and helmets and rubber boots, and $90 for janitor work. No money has been spent for banquets or any foolishness and they have suffered the loss of some of their own clothing at fires.

At the present time there are 11 members who signed up with the Volunteer Organization 2 ½ years ago.

In order to replenish their treasury, which has with the expenditures above mentioned reached a low state, the department is giving another dance tomorrow night at the Orpheum, and everyone should either attend or make it a point to purchase a ticket.

The reductions that have been secured in insurance rates should not be lost sight of, and the boys should be made to feel that even though they are very seldom thanked for their services they are appreciated none the less.
