Street Improvements Planned by Council
February 20, 1936

The City Council, in regular meeting Monday night, initiated action on an extensive WPA project for street improvement. City Engineer Harry S. Riddell was authorized to submit the project covering construction of curbs and gutters on all streets not at present equipped with curb and gutter, and re-oiling and sanding of streets previously oiled.

The curb and gutter project will aid in maintenance of the street system of the town and carry numerous other benefits. The re-oiling and sanding project is a bit of looking ahead on the part of the council.

The process of repeatedly oiling and sanding will eventually build up a pavement in the residential districts.

At the meeting Mr. Riddell submitted a WPA project calling for repairs on the retaining wall at the head of Main Street, which project was approved by the council and orders for beginning work issued.

The city building inspector was instructed to notify the owners of the Armstrong Livery Stable on Main Street that the building is considered unsafe, the recent rains having softened the foundation and increased the hazard heretofore created by the building.
