Making Improvements at the Lassen Fairgrounds Racetrack
February 24, 1976

Getting Track in Shape. Members of the Sierra Racing Association with cooperation from the Lassen County Fair Board and help form the Susanville office of California National Guard among others, are working hard the next several weeks to make the track at the fairgrounds better than ever for the 1976 season.

According to spokeswoman Pat McPherson “We are packing clay on the track in able to have a good running surface.” The National Guard, with Dennis Thompson (pictured above) driving caterpillar is providing much of the labor. A caterpillar has also been donated by the 44 Ranch, Elysian Valley, with Ken Goforth doing the driving.

Volunteers Bob Reuck, Don Vache and John Bertanelli have been donating their time and dump trucks to haul the clay in and Leroy Jacobs has donated a loader and grader. The clay is also being donated.

Mrs. McPherson said that construction is expected to be completed by the second week in February. The races are scheduled to start in early April.

“The Lassen County Fair Board has agreed to maintain the track, once it is fixed up,” explained Mrs. McPherson.

The Sierra Racing Association is currently looking for new members.
