Arson is Possible in Lassen Blaze
February 3, 1954

Possibilities of arson were being investigated by Susanville fire department officials here after the second fire in a week destroyed a barn belonging to Wes Emerson 711 Cottage Street.

The barn was destroyed Sunday night about 8 o’clock. The same barn was reported ablaze a week ago, but firemen were able to get the fire under control on that occasion with very little damage.

Mysterious circumstances being considered by officials include the burning of an unoccupied residence belonging to Art Rippetoe at 410 Carroll St., which was nearly destroyed in two separate blazes the same night the barn was first on fire.
