W.P. Will Run Snow Specials
January 13, 1939

Western Pacific Railroad will run “snow specials” to Lassen County every week end when snow conditions are right, according to word received by Secretary Geo. McDow of the Chamber of Commerce.

The specials will run to Norvell as in previous winters, with excursionists given the option of the side trip to the Susanville area – Coppervale, Willard’s or Diamond Mountain.

Eric Hebbe has been devoting his efforts to securing arrangements for transportation from Westwood to the chosen spots along the highway and expects to be able to report something definite by the time sufficient snow has fallen.

Meantime Hebbe has been exploring the higher places and reports a decidedly attractive ski run on the south side of diamond Mountain into the Cheney Valley.

Skating conditions have been ideal both on Honey Lake and Peconum Lake north of town. The approach to Honey Lake is suggested from Buntingville and the ice is said to be “smooth as glass.”

The storm beginning last night has given hope for favorable early conditions for winter sports throughout this section, but the fall so far has been light. The storm extends in all directions from Susanville with no section particularly favored with snowfall.
