Rancheria Center Approved
January 15, 1976
Jeanette Dixon, left, and Susanville Indian Rancheria Chairman Freda Owens broke ground on Thursday for construction of a $135,000 multi-purpose center which is scheduled for completion by next January.
Construction was made possible when the Rancheria received a first payment of the $135,000 Title 10 Project Grant last week. The grant was from the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration in the Sacramento Area Office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Harold Dixon, vice chairman of the Rancheria, said the center will be a one-story structure 80×100 feet and will be erected just north of the existing dental building.
Dixon said that Rancheria would be the prime contractor in the project and will sub-contract excavation work to Fay Roberts and that the dirt fill will be sub-contracted to Miller Construction and Boyd Thomas.
Dixon said that Wayne Chattin, director of Native American Programs, from Washington, D.C., presented the advance check of $42,600 at the meeting in Sacramento.
