Lassen Advocate and Lassen Mail Become one paper
January 3, 1938
Beginning with the new year, The Lassen Mail, established more than 50 years ago, and Lassen Advocate, its senior by about a quarter of a century, both since May 1, 1936, published in the same plant, will become one newspaper under the name of Lassen Advocate-Mail.
The changes of time have had their effect upon the publishing and printing business locally, just as they have on the border scale, and the present requires the utmost of concentration for the greatest degree of service rightly to be expected of a newspaper.
Lassen Advocate-Mail will be published five days a week after January 1, 1939, dropping the Saturday issue of The Advocate in order to make certain of conformity both in letter and in spirit with the new wages and hours law prescribing a limited work week for employees.
More detailed announcement of the combined publications will appear in Lassen Advocate Saturday. Subscribers of The Lassen Mail will continue to receive their Susanville newspaper for the full time for which their subscriptions have been paid.
With respect for the memory of its former owners, all of whom have passed beyond, their high purpose of serving the community will be continued, and in this last issue under its original name, The Lassen Mail extends greetings of the season, wishing every one a Happy New Year!
