Dry Christmas Trees Soon Become Fire Hazards
January 7, 1980
FIRE HAZARD — With Susanville Fire Chief ready with an extinguisher, city firemen recently put a torch to a dry Christmas tree to demonstrate the hot fires which can be started in dry trees.
Officials have cautioned local residents that if trees haven’t been removed from homes and disposed of, they could become a fire hazard.
Berettini noted there are several safe methods for disposing of trees, the safest being disposal at the dump or through trash pickup service.
Trees can also be burned in incinerators, adding a few branches at a time, or on cleared areas of ground. Officials don’t advise burning in fireplaces, noting trees often burn too hot and could cause flue fires. (Advocate photo)
