January 8, 1971

Construction progress at the new Lassen College, located on Highway 139, approximately one mile north of the City of Susanville, was viewed recently by college officials, and manager of the Susanville District, Bureau of Land Management.

Pictured in the top photo, from left, John T. Spencer, Lassen College vice resident; Rex J. Morgan, former Susanville District Manager, Bureau of Ladn Management; Len Don, general superintendent for Roebbelen Construction Co., Inc., Sacramento; Robert Theiler, Lassen College president and Charlie Parker, member of the governing board of the Lassen Community College District.

The 128-acre site for the new college was acquired from the BLM in 1963 under the provisions of the Recreation and Public Purpose Act. Construction began in April 1970. The facilities, when completed about August 1971, will accommodate 1500 students.

The lower photo shows the gymnasium and locker-shower complex as it appeared recently. (NLM photos)
