Construction Progresses on New Susan River Riverside Drive Crossing
July 13, 1971

CONSTRUCTION of the new Susan River bridge on Riverside Drive in Susanville is ahead of schedule, according to John Mitchell, resident engineer for the construction.

The structure is an 80 foot single span, prestressed concrete girder bridge and Leo L. Davis, Inc., of Fort Jones, Calif., is the contractor. His work is being supervised by Tom Holland, superintendent.

The east wing wall forms are being removed so they can be re-used on the west wing walls. Simultaneously, the contractor’s efficient crew is working on the diaphrams and deck falsework. The construction is financed 100 percent by the federal government through the Office of Emergency Planning.

The project is estimated to be completed by Sept. 2. (Schullo photo).
