Notes from Susanville
July 9th, 1940

Frank C. O’Kelly, for many years a stockman and dairyman of Lassen County, Calif., spent last Sunday in Fallon on various business matters and one of them was to promote interest in the forthcoming Lassen county Livestock Show to be held in Susanville at the fairgrounds the week of August 21 to 25.

O’Kelly has one of the finest dairies in the county.

Another interesting bit of news from Susanville is that of the interest shown in the garden project of Mrs. Mabel Barry, who for many years has been secretary of the Lassen County Farm Bureau, and who recently completed a five year home grounds project there.

In her program she has used as much as has been possible the existing shrubs and trees that were on the property and it has been relatively inexpensive. Mrs. Barry became an artist at re-arranging and simplifying and her garden is now a beautiful sight and is a cool place to spend the hot summer afternoons.
