Uranium Claims Near Hallelujah Being Developed
Susanville Man Grant Options on 21 Properties
March 16, 1955

A group of local men has optioned 21 uranium claims northeast of Hallelujah Junction area to Western Development Corp, a subsidiary of Helen Curtis Enterprises, with the option to be exercised by April 15.

Susanville men interested in the property, which was located in September 1954, are the Purdy Bros, Langslet Motors and H N Stewart. The group of claims know as the Lucky Day and Valley View Groups, lie between the Buckhorn property on the south, sold to the LL Cord interest by Ted Delavagas of Reno, and the Cornelius C on the north, owned by Mr. Delavagas and George Baker of Reno and optioned by Western Development Corp.

It is understood that Western Development Corp has built a road from Highway 395 from about the site of the old highway maintenance station near Red Rock for a distance of about five miles to the Cornelius C property, and at present has two cats stripping over-burden in preparation to start mining.

Langslet said that assays on ores from the area indicated to the ore is rich enough so that the government would pay freight to the smelter at Salt Lake City. The government he said pays freight on ores assaying 20 per cent or better.

Paul Langslet, Tom Can and Sherman Lane all of Susanville, also recently located claims on Seven Lakes Mountain in the Red Rock area near Doyle and are now running in two tunnels for development work. Some of the assays at this group of claims, know as the Independence Group has assayed as high as .75 per cent.
