Temporary Steps Serving Local Business
March 27, 1973
CITY CREWS Wednesday went ahead with plans to pour a new sidewalk in front of Richins Propane, 1017 Main St., after a court order temporarily halted the work on Tuesday.
The order, signed by Superior Court Judge Arthur Anderson, ordered the city to stop the demolition of a ramp and steps at the entrance of the business and to provide temporary access to the building.
After reviewing the order, City Attorney Don Cady instructed Director of Public Works Mario Vial to proceed with the new sidewalk while wooden steps provide access to the business through one door.
According to Vial, the east 40 feet of the contested 50 foot sidewalk would be completed first, with the pouring of concrete slated for yesterday afternoon. The final 10 feet will be poured sometime next week, with the wooden steps to be moved to the other entrance while the new concrete cures.
How long the wooden steps will remain will be considered in Superior Court on Monday, April 2. (Advocate photo).
