Scout Building to Be a Museum
March 3, 1960

Boy Scouts recently donated a former meeting house to the Lassen County Historical Society for use as a memorial museum.

Idle for many years, the log structure, valued at more than $10,000 if it were to be built under modern construction costs, is located adjacent to the Roop Fort in city park.

City councilmen approved the donation which is accompanied by a stipulation that scouts be allowed to install in the building a plaque honoring the late George Borden of Susanville, eagle and explorer scout who drowned in Lake Leavitt in 1951.

The museum will be named for William H. Pratt, late president of the society.

Councilmen instructed the city attorney to draw a long-term lease for the society and stated they would furnish water, grounds and electricity for the building.

Built in 1947, the structure is made of logs from nearby forests. Local lumber mills, businessmen, civic organizations and scouts cooperated on its erection.
