Patrol Squad Issues Ultimatum to Logging Truck Operators
March 5, 1930

Order Is Result Of Complaints Received At Offices Of State Highway Commission At Sacramento; Six Trucks Weighed And One Arrested For Speeding

B. D. March, Susanville truck driver, was arrested Monday afternoon at Buntingville by State Traffic Officer T. W. Birmingham as the result of a day’s check-up on logging truck operators for highway traffic violations.

March was arrested for speeding, Birmingham’s complaint alleging that the vehicle being driven by March was traveling at the rate of 45 miles per hour at the time of the arrest.

Birmingham weighed six logging trucks and arrested March Monday as the opening shot in a war against truck drivers who are violating the loading and speed laws contained in the state vehicle acts.

Complaints Filed
The war is the result of complaints which have been filed with the state highway commission at Sacramento. The California Highway Patrol is taking drastic measures to put a halt to the violations and asks the co-operation of truck men in this vicinity to help in the drive.

The Lassen County patrol squad has issued a statement that, if necessary, officers will be stationed on the highways leading into and out of Susanville twenty-four hours per day to arrest any violators.

The squad is of the opinion that the greater percentage of the logging truck operators want to comply with all state traffic laws and are asking their assistance in this drive to stop all violations.

The eye of the law will be upon the highways throughout the present logging season.
