Susanville Fire Department Takes Delivery of New Truck
November 20, 1976
Don Morrison, manager of the local United California Bank branch, last Friday presented the keys to a new fire truck the city acquired with UCB financing to Susanville Mayor Jim Chapman and Fire Chief Ray Berettini.
At a cost of $48,000, the International truck with a 1,000 gallon per minute pumping capacity was acquired under a lease-purchase agreement with UCB.
With the new addition, Berettini does not foresee a need by the city for any major pieces of fire equipment for quite a few years.
Berettini says the new fire truck upgrades the pumping capacity of the department and replaces two older trucks, GMC engines built in 1940 and 1943, that will become reserve units.
The new truck will join two other engines the department operates to provide the city with three Class A, or initial response pumpers. The fire chief said the acquisition was considered over the past three years and that it took a year to build the truck and install its equipment.
