The Lassen Cinderellas of Susanville, Calif., who won the women’s and girls’ division in Sunday’s Journal Jog, manifested those qualities of physique and personality which are the secret of feminine beauty and charm.
They have developed such qualities as pleasing carriage, gait and coordination, as well as the radiation that comes from good physical condition and confidence.
Winner of the division, 18-year-old Kathy Law, who was a close runner-up in last year’s Journal Jog while a senior at Lassen High School in Susanville, said, “I enjoy running. You meet lots of people. It’s the only competition for girls in Susanville.”
This year Kathy, a physical education major, has represented Lassen College in AAU meets at San Jose and Walnut Creek, Calif., and she captured first place in the women’s category of the University of Nevada Cross Country Carnival two weeks ago.
Following Miss Law were Cinderellas Barbara Green, runner-up: Dale Phillips, third; and Liz Green, fourth; and Trixie Ratliff, 10th.
Miss Phillips, now an 18-year-old freshman at Lassen College, was the first distancer to cross the finish line in the 1969 Journal Jog.
“I broke my foot last summer,” explained Miss Phillips. “I had to slow down and got out of shape. I’m now trying to get back in shape.”
Still sporting a bandage on her foot, Miss Phillips was runner-up to teammate Kathy Law in the cross-country carnival in Reno, Oct. 17.
Miss Phillips thinks highly of the Grizzlies’ track coach, Bob Wall.
“If it weren’t for coach Wall I wouldn’t be in this activity,” said Dane.
