Courthouse Cleared After Bomb Threat
November 7, 1976
FOLLOWING BOMB SCARE – After vacating the Lassen County Courthouse for almost an hour following a bomb threat, county employees are pictured above returning to work Monday afternoon.
After finding no evidence of an explosive during a search of the courthouse and county annex, the Sheriff’s Office and Susanville Police Department allowed the employees to reenter the building at about 3:30p.m.
The Susanville Fire Department served as emergency standby during the bomb search.
A man who said he represented the SLA (presumably the Symbionese Liberation Army) informed Linda Kennedy, KSUE reporter who received the call at the radio station, of the bomb threat at approximately 2:33p.m.
The man said the bomb would explode within the half hour and Kennedy immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Office and the county offices were vacated.
Several persons expressed disgust concerning the incident, saying it was an instance of sick threats that typically occur in larger urban areas and not in smaller communities such as Susanville. (Advocate photo)
