

Fire Prevention Week Observance

NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK is being observed the week of Oct. 3 through Oct. 9. Members of the Susanville Fire Department remind everyone that fire prevention is something that should be practiced not only this week but throughout the entire year and asks the cooperation of all to achieve a fire safe year.
Pictured on this page is some of the personnel and equipment of the Susanville Department.
In photo above, Fire Engineer Mike Waldron is shown working at the dispatch and control center at the fire station. This center is where all emergencies are received and necessary equipment and apparatus are dispatched. The control room contains all radios, alarms, alarm system and fire box alarm system. This center gives 24 hour a day emergency service to the citizens of Susanville.

LINE OF DEFENSE. When the alarm comes in of a reported structure fire, these units respond and perform in this order. Unit 68 initial attack and pumping at the fire scene. UNIT 121 is a 1967 International which is assigned to the City of Susanville and surrounding area by the Office of Emergency Services. This truck can be used to assist the Susanville Fire Department and also neighboring fire districts in the event of an emergency.
It also can be summoned to respond to disasters or fires in other parts of the state. This unit is a 1,000 GPM pumper with a 700-gallon tank. It also contains air packs, rescue saw, monitor gun, hand tools and various firefighting equipment.

UNITS 68 AND 64 are pictured here working at the scene of a major fire. The Susanville Fire Department has a staff of 10 paid men and 25 volunteer firemen who respond to the firehall and fire scenes when they receive a radio signal on special receivers they have in their homes.
