American Legion Pays Off Street Assessment
October 9, 1925

First Step Taken to Clear Lot for Building
Thomas Tucker Post No. 304 took steps this week to clear title to its lot on Main street preparatory to building the Memorial building that has been voted by the Supervisors.

In order to commence construction on the building the property must be clear of all indebtedness and the assessment for street work is classed as a lien on the property.

The amount paid into the city treasury this week by the Legion was $4001.15. The city will notify the bondholder that the bonds covering this lot are to be recalled. After the bonds have been recalled there will be a refund to the Legion amounting to $900 or more.

This payment will clear the lot of all indebtedness and pave the way for the commencement of building shortly after the first of the year. The Legion will have the building ready for its dedication by the State Department next year.
