Many Spectators Attend Swim Meet Sunday

Eric Hebbe, swimming instructor at Roosevelt pool, reports that a large and enthusiastic crowd witnessed the races, exhibition swimming and dives as well as individual performers at the swimming meet held Sunday afternoon at the plunge.
Comedy diving by Ray Long and John Evans furnished spectators with a high class of amusement at different points during the afternoon. These two boys did all kinds of special “splash” dives.
Marion Edmonds walked off with high point total for the meet when she gathered 19 points in all. Charles Valente took 16 points during the afternoon to take the second highest total of points and Marilyn Nutting gathered 12 tallies to her favor to place third.
Eric Hebbe gave an exhibition of springboard diving and was followed in his dives by youngsters from five years of age to young men and women. The youngsters put on a life-saving exhibition following the diving.
Speed swimming demonstrations were presented to the spectators by Duncan Curl, Mars Craddick, Richard Stewart, Richard Valente and Philip Doyle. Times established by the speed swimmers was much faster in nearly every instance than that established last spring. Hebbe states that he is very pleased with the showing of his pupils and is sure that Susanville will have a team to be proud of from this time on.

100 yard breast stroke—Gene French swam the distance in 1 minute and 20 seconds, a new tank record.
Senior 50 yd. free style—First, John Evans; second, Ray Long; time 27 seconds.
Junior girls 50 yd. free style—Marion Edmonds, first; Marilyn Nutting, second; Sally Wemple, third and Caroline Edmonds fourth. Time 35 seconds.
Junior Boys’ 50 yd. free style—Charles Valonte, first; Reno Favero, second; Fabian Gomaz, third; John Doyle, fourth. Time 34 seconds.
Senior boys’ 50 yd. back stroke—Jack Boyd, first; Bob Booth, second; Frank Bottini, third. Time 35 seconds.
Girls’ 50 yd. breast stroke—Marion Edmonds, first; Juanita Gomaz, second; Jean Bates, third. Time 52 seconds.
Girls’ 100 meter medley race—Marion Edmonds, first; Marilyn Nutting, second; Sally Wemple, third; Juanita Gomaz, fourth. Time 1 minute 35 seconds.
