Susanville Story to be told in Magazine’s Pages
September 1, 1939

L. L Chapman, publisher of Chapman’s magazine in San Francisco, addressed Rotarians at luncheon yesterday, introduced by Chairman Bert Thompson.

Chapman is touring the Shasta-Cascade Wonderland area assembling data for his publication in an early issue.

His magazine “dedicated to American ideals and progress,” the publisher found much interest in the fact that there are here institutions and business names which date back three quarters of a century.

At his request after the meeting, Ross Draper assembled material, pictures and text matter, for a two-page spread in his magazine.

Chapman made it clear that he was not selling anything here, his market for this material in published form being among the tourist class in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other large centers.

One of his “ideals” is the long-established and successful family names, extending from pioneer days and with enterprise marking the community as one of the more modern and progressive.

The material and illustrations are all distinctive Susanville, including the founder of the city and his old “Fort Defiance.”
