LMUD Presents: This Day in Susanville History – September 13, 1924

Susanville’s unique ‘middle of the street’ parking in the early 1920’s

Sneak Thieves Busy on Automobiles
September 13, 1924

While there have been no thefts of cars in Susanville for several months, sneak thieves are making life miserable for the owner by stealing tires and other accessories that can be carried off easily.

Last Friday night A. R. Whipple’s car was taken from the streets of Susanville and driven to a point near the Lawson ranch on Richmond road. Three tires were taken from the wheels and other small accessories were stolen.

Tracks near the car indicated that the thieves had come back to town in another machine.

Many complaints have come about stranded cars on the Westwood road being stripped of everything that can be carried away. It has gotten to the point where a man must remain with his car until help arrives or very little of it will be left when he comes to tow it in.

We offer it as a very humble suggestion that our officers give as much attention to these annoying sneak thieves as they do to bootleggers.
