Susanville Youth Slated to get Heroism Award
September 25, 1962

A Susanville boy who last year rescued his grandmother from her burning home will be cited for heroism September 19th by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Charles Ramey, 13, a First Class Scout in Boy Scout Troop 59 of Susanville, is scheduled to receive the “Certificate of Heroism” at a special Court of Honor beginning at 7:30p.m. in the Susanville Elks Lodge.

On October 16th, 1961, Ramey rescued his grandmother, Mrs. Ella Roberts, from a fire in her home. Ramey administered first aid to his grandmother who received first and second-degree burns. He also extinguished the fire.

The award, to be presented under the direction of the Nevada Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, is given by the National Council for “meritorious action on the part of a Boy Scout in performing a rescue and the saving of a life.”

Ramey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ramey of Susanville.

Dale Westman is Scoutmaster of Troop 59, which is sponsored by the Elks Lodge.
