Man Hurt when Building Falls in Susanville
September 26, 1934

A building fell down here today, injuring one man and endangering several others.

Sam Vucanivich was sleeping in a second story room over the Grand Cafe when the building suddenly crumbled and toppled into an excavation which had been dug next door to make way for the basement of a new hotel.

Cut, bruised and otherwise injured, the man was taken from his bed – which landed several feet beyond the sidewalk as the outer wall of the structure gave way – to a Susanville hospital.

Several persons enjoying breakfast in the cafe escaped without injury. The building was wrecked.
