Lassen Hospital Work is Started
September 26, 1950

Pouring of cement for the foundation of the new addition to the county hospital has begun and work will proceed from that point as fast as possible, it was announced.

Ground was broken last week for the long-anticipated new wing and remodeling of the Lassen County hospital. The county board of supervisors recently accepted the lowest bid submitted for the job by the T. and M. Carpenter shop of Susanville, which totaled $94,433.

Roy Todd, Superintendent of construction for T. and M., expects to finish the job by Dec. 15.

Proposed ground floor of the extension of the main building will contain a three-bed ward; two two-bedrooms and two private rooms, and two bathrooms. Upstairs there will be accommodations for the help and storage space. A corridor will join the two-floor part of the new wing, with a one-story addition.

This will include a six-bed women’s ward, connected with a large sunroom; utility room; nurses room and bathroom. It also will contain two private rooms, one two-bedroom; general lavatory, linen closet and two detention rooms.

The kitchen will be remodeled, and there will be a small addition to the men’s dining room.
