Susanville’s Sunrise Rotary Club is inviting local high school musicians to showcase their skills in the annual Rotary District 5190 Youth Instrumental Music Contest. This prestigious competition offers soloists a unique platform to demonstrate their musical talent and passion, with the chance to earn significant prize money at every stage of the journey.
The Competition Begins in Susanville
The local qualifying round will take place at 5:30p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st, at the Methodist Church on South Lassen Street. This local contest serves as the first step for students hoping to advance through the area trials and eventually reach the District Finals.
While musicians are responsible for providing their own accompaniment if required, the judging is strictly focused on the individual soloist’s performance.
A Path to the District Finals in Reno
Musicians who find success at the local and area levels will earn an invitation to the grand finale at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. The stakes are high for these finalists, with a $1,000 first-place prize, $750 for second place and $500 for third place.
Eligibility and Participation
This opportunity is open to all high school students in grades 9 through 12, including home-schooled or non-traditionally schooled students between the ages of 14 and 18 residing within District 5190. To ensure a fair and focused competition, participants must adhere to a few specific guidelines:
- Performances must be between three and eight minutes in length.
- Students may only compete in one local Rotary Club contest per year.
- While open to new talent, previous District Final winners are not eligible to re-enter.
