Looking to Run For State Senate? Here Are The Dates You Need to Know!

Julie Bustamante, Lassen County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters, has announced several important dates for candidates in the run-up to the March 26th, 1st State Senate District special election to fill the seat currently held by Senator Ted Gaines, who was elected to the Board of Equalization during the November 6th election.

The Declaration of Candidacy and Nomination period for candidates is January 16th, through January 31st, Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. and 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m., excluding holidays in the Elections Department located in the Historic Courthouse at 220 South Lassen Street, Suite 5, in Susanville.

Candidate statements of Qualifications for the voter information guide is due by January 31st, and a list of qualified candidates will be available on February 7th.

Bustamante explained in today’s notice that the write-in period begins January 28th, and ends March 12th.

Vote by Mail ballots will be mailed to voters who vote by mail during the week of February 25th, and the last day for the Elections Office to mail a requested vote by mail ballot is March 19th.

Voter Information Guides will be mailed to polling place voters at the same time.

The deadline to register to vote in this election is March 11th. If you miss the deadline, you can still register and vote at the Elections Department located in the Historic Courthouse.

Polls will be open for the Special Primary Election from 7:00a.m. until 8:00p.m. on March 26th.

According to Bustamante the opening and processing of the vote by mail ballots for the March election will take place at the Lassen County Elections Office starting March 12th, and continue through election night.

In order to be counted, all vote by mail ballots must be postmarked no later than March 26th, and received by the elections official by March 29th.
