A Monday afternoon wreck sent two victims to Banner Lassen Medical Center and closed Main Street for a time near the Wal-Mart parking lot.
According to Captain Tom Downing from the Susanville Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Main Street, Johnstonville Road and the Wal-Mart entrance for a reported vehicle collision.
On arrival, and in the subsequent investigation, SPD officers were able to learn that 82 year-old Betty Jean Vickroy of Susanville was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer and traveling westbound on Main Street attempting to make a left turn in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She was struck in the intersection by 84 year-old Dale Richard Pierce of Standish, who was driving a 2004 Buick sedan and traveling eastbound on Main Street, through the intersection.
Both parties complained of pain associated with the collision and were transported to Banner Lassen Medical Center via SEMSA ambulance for evaluation.
According to Officer Downing, “Early indications appear that a traffic signal violation might be the cause of the collision. Alcohol or drug use does not appear to be a factor.” The case is still under investigation.
