Main Street Restaurant Suffers Major Damage from Wednesday Evening Fire

The cause of a Wednesday evening fire that heavily damaged part of Young Sing Restaurant on Main Street in Susanville, is still under investigation according to the Susanville Fire Department.

The fire was reported to the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center at around 7:00p.m., and fire crews were immediately dispatched.

“Susanville Fire Department Engine 621 was notified by a citizen at the station of a fire on Main Street and was able to arrive on scene within 30 seconds of the dispatch,” explains SFD Engineer Dale Johnson.

When the crew from Engine 621 arrived on-scene they found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the restaurant.

With assistance of the Susanville Police Dept, firefighters forced entry into the rear of the restaurant.

“Once entry was made, the kitchen area was on fire and spreading to the seating area.”

Firefighters from SFD were able to prevent the fire from spreading and shortly after, CalFire engines E2261, E621 and E2261 arrived and were able to fully extinguish the fire.

“Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked to overhaul the structure. This involved removing portions of the ceiling and walls to check for possible extension of the fire. The fire originated in the waitstaff prep station and the cause is still under investigation.”

According to Engineer Johnson there were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

The Susanville Fire Department was supported by Cal Fire, CDCR Fire, Susan River Fire Protection District, City of Susanville Water and Gas Departments, LMUD, Susanville Police Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department.
