Manicures, Massages and Mammograms at Banner Lassen

Banner Lassen Medical Center’s yearly ‘Manicures, Massages and Mammograms’ event will be taking place again this Friday, October 28th, from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., at the hospital on Spring Ridge Drive.

This fun, relaxing day is meant to help monitor breast health while participants enjoy pampering in the form of chair massages and free manicures. Banner Lassen provides the service every year and it includes discounted mammograms for all who participate.

Last Friday, at the first of two Friday events, community members lined up to receive a free gift basket, a massage and a manicure while waiting for their mammograms. “This is a great thing to do with a friend and this event makes that possible,” said Janelle Riley, a patient waiting to be screened.

There was plenty to occupy the patients as they waited. Deena Wadell and Monica Morris had their hands busy all day providing free manicures. Kelly Field and Annie Westerbeke provided free massages and Jenny Field from Arbonne was also present passing out information on Wellness and beauty products.

The women in attendance also enjoyed cookies and refreshments provided by Susanville Soroptomists and Banner Lassen Medical Center. Millwood Florist also provided beautiful pink centerpieces.

“This is a great way for woman to support other woman and receive nurture. We are always the ones nurturing, “ said Julia Kranz, while waiting to receive her mammogram.

Last Friday Banner Lassen’s imaging department registered 76 people and screened 71 patients. “In a typical day we usually screen 14 patients and we do them in 30 minute intervals, giving them enough time to change,” said Joan Hernandez imaging clerk.

The imaging department actually had to shut down registration last Friday after being overwhelmed by participants. Patients who were not taken the day of the event still received a free gift, a manicure, a massage and rescheduled their mammogram for another day.

“We are very excited about the turn out. This means more women are getting the screening done working to prevent the disease,” said Banner Lassen Public Relations Specialist Melissa Blosser.

Next year the hospital is looking into ways it can accommodate more patients. “As we continue to grow, we will be looking for more volunteers.” said Blosser.

Mammograms have been proven to be the best tool for finding and fighting breast cancer early. Mammograms are especially important for women over 40.
