A book signing and reading of Seasoning the Blade, a new historical novel by local author Dianna MacKinnon Henning, will be held this Saturday, March 15th at Margie’s Book Nook in uptown Susanville.

The novel follows the journey of a nineteenth-century girl named Ella who sets out in search of a cure for her mother’s cancer.

“She finds not only the bone-chilling cold of Nova Scotia’s winter,” says the book jacket, “but also feels the painful bite of a trapper’s leg trap.”

“Found unconscious by Stands Like a Tree, a Micmac, she is carried to her friend Minnie’s house,” continues the description, “When her friend is eventually forced to leave the place of his birth, the Mohawks closing in on him, Ella sadly watches him paddle to his new lands.”

Henning has long been a professional author and lends her considerable talents to local writing programs like the Thompson Peak Writers’ Workshop where she acted as Facilitator for nearly twenty years.

The Thompson Peak workshop critiques short stories, novels in progress, poems and memoirs, as well as historical fiction and promotes readings of works for the public through Poets & Writers grants and arts councils.

The book signing and reading for Seasoning the Blade will run from 1:00 to 3:00 Saturday afternoon.
