A Meadow View Elementary student received minor injuries Friday morning when she was struck by a vehicle near the school on Paiute Lane.
The incident occurred at around 8:00a.m. as students arrived for classes.
When officers arrived they found the six year-old lying on the front lawn of the school and a white 2013 Ford Pickup parked along the east side of the street with minor damage to the front grill.
Police Lieutenant Matt Wood said that the department’s investigation determined that the driver of the pickup, identified as 38 year-old Susanville resident Glen Schall, was driving northbound on Paiute Lane near Meadow View School when a female juvenile attempted to run across the street on her way to school.
According to police the driver applied the brakes but was unable to avoid striking the girl who was not in the crosswalk at the time of the collision. She was transported by SEMSA to Banner Lassen Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
“The Susanville Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind pedestrians to always use a crosswalk with caution when crossing the street,” said Lieutenant Wood.
“We would also like to remind drivers to use extreme caution when driving in school zones.”
