Michael Morales October 6, 2014
Michael Morales passed from this life into the next world on September 6, 2014, in Susanville California. Michael was born to Ron and Nancy Morales on January 3, 1964. Michael was a life-long resident of Susanville California, a member of the Susanville Indian Rancheria, and a descendant of the Maidu, Pit River and Shoshone, Tribes. Michael participated in the Annual Maidu Bear Dance each year in June. Michael was a descendent of Roxie Peconom and his roots are traced back within Honey Lake Valley since time immemorial. As a young child Michael was very inquisitive about Maidu Creation Stories, and Legends. He spent countless hours with his Grandmother Leona Peconom Morales, and Aunt Yvonne Morales, questioning and interviewing them and memorizing the stories he was told. Later in life he would re-count the things he learned from his Grandmother and Aunt. Michael held a special spot in his heart for his sister Lauri, and her Children.
From his Uncles; Zeek, Richard and Ray Morales, Michael spent much of childhood outdoors. He would later recount fishing trips with his Uncle Shine Morales. As an adult, Michael became an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending weekends at the local lakes and streams. Michael had many hobbies and was exceptional in the area of graphic design, free hand drawing, and photography. Michael was a photographer for the Lassen Community College, where he was also a student.
Michael worked many years in the Timber Industry for the United States Forest Service and W.M. Beatty and Associates. Michael was preceded in death by his sister Lauri Morales in July of 2013. Michael is survived by son Cole Morales of Westwood, Father Ron Morales, of Susanville, Nancy Morales of Sacramento, Nephews; Michael Morales, Scott, and Kevin McDowell all of Susanville, Nieces; Mya and Isla Morales of Susanville, Brothers Cory Miller of Susanville, and Stacy Miller of Sacramento, Friend and Companion, Seana Allen, and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Extended Family Members throughout California and Nevada, and many friends and acquaintances.
A Traditional Wake will be held on October 10, 2014, and a Funeral Service will be held on October 11, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., with a burial at the Diamond Crest Cemetery. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the Diamond Willow Room at the Diamond Mountain Casino following the Burial at Diamond Crest Cemetery.
