Motorists Injured After Running Into CalTrans Plow Truck on Highway 44

The Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol is reporting that a 69-year old Fairfax, California resident, and the two passengers in his vehicle, struck a CalTrans plow truck after failing to stop at a barricade during a closure of Highway 44 near Bogard rest area.

At around 4:00a.m. on December 3rd, according to the CHP, a man identified as Michael Keelan was traveling westbound on the highway approaching the rest area in his 2011 Nissan Maxima.

“Caltrans had a full road closure set up westbound State Route 44 at the Bogard rest area due to an overturned truck collision west of the county line,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Kristin Wilburn.

“As Mr. Keelen approached the closure he did not see the Caltrans employee flashing a flash light at him.”

Keelan continued into the closure, past the barricades, where he struck the rear end of a Caltrans plow truck blocking the roadway.

His passengers were treated for minor injuries.
