National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Advisory

weatherupdate

The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect until 10:00a.m. Sunday.

Light snow will spread east through the evening and intensify overnight. The heaviest snow will move into the area between 11:00 this evening and 4:00 Sunday morning.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are expected west of Highway 395 in Lassen County with higher amounts, up to 9 inches, above 5,000 feet.

Elsewhere, according to the NWS, amounts will range from 1 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts up to 6 in the higher elevations of northern Washoe County.

Icy and snow covered roads are likely tonight and Sunday morning. Travel delays are possible tonight and Sunday.

Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
