The Lassen Library District reopened on May 6th, after nearly a year spent making health and safety improvements, upgrading windows and insulating for energy efficiency.
Visitors to the library will notice a new look to the front of the building and the improved accessibility. Inside you will find new floor coverings throughout the building, a new front desk and new restroom partitions.
“Improvements not visible are the complete reconstruction of the sewer system, and insulation on the exterior walls,” explains Library Director Heather Blevins, “We have new emergency egress lighting and exit signs for power outages, and exterior security cameras and other staff and patron safety improvements.”
“From improved accessibility to a more welcoming front desk, each upgrade was made to create a safer, more comfortable space for both patrons and staff.”
Plus, according to Blevins, there are more changes on the way. Work remaining in the remodel contract includes a new front door, with push-button access, and repainting of the building’s exterior.
“In another phase of the improvements we plan to install solar panels on the roof, and are redesigning the fire department connection for the fire sprinkler system.”
“With new insulation and energy-efficient windows already lowering our energy use—and solar panels coming soon—we’re proud to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable library,” said Al Vazquez, President of the Board of Trustees.
The library is planning to hold a reopening carnival event, date to be determined.
