Next Week is Red Ribbon Week and the Office of Ed Invites You to Participate!

The Lassen County Office of Education is calling on the entire community – businesses, organizations, and residents – to show visible support for local youth by participating in its “Paint the Town Red” campaign during Red Ribbon Week, which runs from October 23rd to the 31st.

The annual event is the nation’s largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign, and this year’s theme is “Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free!” LCOE is aiming for a county-wide display of red to promote safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyles for students.

Community Commitment to a Drug-Free Future
“Red Ribbon Week gives our community a powerful opportunity to come together and send a unified message: every student’s future matters and living drug free is the key to lifelong success,” said James Hall, LCOE’s Director of Student, Family and Community Engagement.

Community participation is considered vital to the success of Red Ribbon Week. The LCOE is specifically inviting local businesses and organizations to get involved in several creative ways to raise awareness for the cause.

How Businesses Can Show Support
Businesses are being asked to incorporate the color red into their operations and appearance throughout the celebration. This could include displaying red ribbons in storefronts, offices, or windows, and encouraging employees to wear red ribbons daily as a visible reminder of support for the week’s message.

LCOE also suggests that businesses light up their offices or buildings in red using outdoor lighting to show solidarity. On a designated day, October 30th, all employees are encouraged to wear red and share photos on social media using the hashtag #PaintLassenCoRed to amplify the campaign.

To further promote the message, businesses can utilize their own social media platforms and even offer red-themed specials, discounts, or menu items. For those looking to partner more directly with students, the LCOE suggests sponsoring a school door or display by helping to supply decorations for school-run contests and events.

For more information on how to get involved, the LCOE directs the public to contact James Hall via email at [email protected] or by calling 1.530.257.8711.

“It’s more than just a tradition,” said Communications Specialist Kaitlyn Midgely, “it’s a commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for students across Lassen County.”
