Noreen Ann Frieling 05/28/1945 – 11/23/2023.
Noreen Frieling was born 5/28/1945 in Santa Monica, California to Lenore Margaret (McCarthy) Emerson and Joseph Michael Emerson. Noreen was raised in Santa Monica and then Tustin California. She went to Mount Saint Mary’s Collage. She knew at a young age she wanted to be a nurse, and joined the Navy to get financial help.
After college she served at the Oak Knoll Naval hospital during the Vietnam war, and in Boston, MA at the time of her honorable discharge in 1971 she had reached the rank of lieutenant.
She was married in 1970 to Wayne Delap, and together they moved to Janesville, CA where she was employed at Lassen Community Hospital. Her and Wayne Delap divorced in 1974.
Noreen married Gary Frieling in 1975. They had two children together, Jesse 1977, and Luke 1980. They divorced in 1984.
In the early 1980’s she went back to school, University of CA at Davis, where she obtained her nurse practitioner’s certificate in 1983.
She worked many years in the office of friend Dr. John Dozier and was also a long time employee at Lassen Banner where she worked the emergency room. Noreen also worked for Northeastern Rural Health Clinic and after 37 years at NERHC doing what she loved she retired. She was Susanville’s Woman of Distinction in 2002.
While not working she enjoyed helping people and the outdoors around Lassen county. Snow skiing, gardening, visiting the local lakes & rivers were some of her favorites. She also LOVED going to yard sales, and going to craft fairs with her friends and family.
Noreen was proceeded in death by her Father, Mother, sister Christine Reed, and her son Luke. She is survived by her son Jesse, Sisters Mona Johnson and Mollie Tucker, brother Phil Emerson along with many nieces and nephews.
Noreen lost her battle against cancer on Thanksgiving day 2023. She passed peacefully in her Susanville home that she loved with her son Jesse, sister Mona, and brother Phil by her side.
