The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for extremely dangerous fire conditions in our region through 8:00 this evening.
The urgent Red Flag Warning covers the following areas: Surprise Valley California – Western Lassen/Eastern Plumas/Eastern Sierra/Eastern Nevada Counties – Eastern Lassen County – Western Nevada Sierra Front – West Central Nevada Basin and Range – Northern Washoe County – Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties.
Forecasters are calling this a ‘particularly dangerous situation’ for areas downwind of the Long Valley and MM155 Fires. Strong winds could rapidly push fire into close proximity of local communities this evening.
Heed any evacuation orders. React quickly, you may not have much time to leave.
Winds will gust up to 35 mph this evening becoming west around 10 mph with gusts to 20 mph after 8:00p.m.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Existing fires will possibly break containment lines as spotting and the rate of fire spread increases.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.
